Australian Red Cross Blood Service moves into Village
The Australian Red Cross Blood Service has moved from the City to its new Queensland principal site at 44 Musk Avenue.
The building houses 250 staff working across three floors in many different areas including laboratories, testing, processing, administration, quality, clinical management and transfusion medicine.
There is no Donor Centre in this building, but a donormobile regularly visits the QUT campus and the Creative Industries Precinct in the
Urban Village.
One blood donation saves three lives. Imagine how many lives the Kelvin Grove Urban Village community could save if everyone made an appointment to donate.
If you are interested in donating blood, or would like more information on the Blood Service, please call 13 14 95 or visit www.donateblood.com.au.

Northern Link Tunnel plans include the Kelvin Grove Urban Village
The Environmental Impact Study for the Northern Link Tunnel is continuing. The initial concept design, which was released in May, has been updated with input from various developers and organisations from within and around the Kelvin Grove Urban Village.
Changes in the concept design have been implemented to ensure ongoing safety, continued pedestrian access, allowance for stormwater requirements and to reduce the impact on parks and trees.
Consultation for the project will continue with the final design expected to be released in late 2009.
To view the current concept design or for further information on the project visit, www.northernlinkeis.com.au, phone 1800 692 333 (freecall) or email info@northernlinkeis.com.au.

Strong, Smart and Creative: A new billboard for the Creative Industries Precinct
A new artwork by Cherbourg State School students has taken pride of place on the billboard fronting Kelvin Grove Road since early July. For the past five years, artists Peter Widmer and Geoff Bonney (collectively Ratartat) have worked with the people of Cherbourg on a community art project, encouraging a sense of pride and self-expression through art. The scope of the work produced by the students alongside Ratartat, which includes paintings, sculptures and much more, will be on show in an exhibition at The Block from 7 to 16 August.
The accompanying billboard is a striking compilation of the students paintings representing each of the 48 tribes that make up the Cherbourg community, as well as words that are important to the students, such as Respect and Pride. The paintings appear on the terracing logs surrounding the school oval in Cherbourg and serve as a visible reminder to the students and community at large.
This billboard marks not only the first time that children's artwork has been featured, but it also acknowledges the heritage of our land and the complexities of our community.
