SunnyCove to develop seniors' accommodation |
 |
| |
Queensland-based developer SunnyCove will build a $22 million seniors' community at the Kelvin Grove Urban Village, delivering around 125 units of managed seniors’ accommodation.
In a first for Brisbane, the SunnyCove development in Ramsgate Street will be built on a smaller site over nine stories, rather than spread out over ground level. The project includes 40 units catering to the affordable sector of the market, which will give older people on lower incomes the opportunity to live close to the city. The SunnyCove development will cater to a broad demographic market of individual seniors, couples and local workers. Residents will also have the option to include furniture, meals and services in their rental package.
SunnyCove is an Australian listed company and an experienced provider of accommodation for seniors. It has nine facilities currently under management and another six projects planned, including the development at Kelvin Grove Urban Village.
For information about the development, contact SunnyCove on 1800 356 544 or email resident@sunnycove.com.au. |

Action and Chemart confirmed for Village Centre
|

 |
| The Village Centre will become the shopping hub of the Urban Village. |
|
Action Supermarket and Chemart Pharmacy have been confirmed as the first retail tenants of Indigo’s The Village Centre development.
Action, a wholly owned subsidiary of the publicly-listed FAL Limited, will launch a new full-line concept store to suit the inner-city lifestyles of the local area, as well as to target the students and staff of the nearby QUT campus and local emerging industries.
The Chemart store will be operated by Sam Lenti, of nearby Paddington Chemart.
Action and Chemart will make up 45% of the retail space at the Village Centre, and will complement the style and vibrancy of the Village. With the two anchor tenants confirmed, Indigo will now consider a range of other potential tenants who have expressed interest in the Village Centre, including a medical centre, cafes and restaurants, hair and beauty centre, bakery, juice bar and others.
Construction of the Village Centre is due for completion in mid 2006 and a display suite is now open at 62 Blamey Street, Kelvin Grove from 9am to 5pm, seven days per week. |

|
Internationally-renowned architect and urban designer Jan Gehl visited the Kelvin Grove Urban Village in February as part of his professional tour of Australia. As a professor of architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and Principal of Gehl Architects based in Copenhagen, Professor Gehl has advised places such as Edinburgh, Melbourne, Lyon, Oslo, Adelaide, Changsha and now London, on how to bring human activity back into cities dominated by cars.
Professor Gehl presented a workshop at the Village for 30 of Brisbane’s leading built environment professionals, including town planners, urban designers and architects. He highlighted a number of strategies for making cities more people-friendly, such as the importance of pedestrian movement, a quality public realm and active street frontages. Many of the strategies have been included in the Master Plan for the Kelvin Grove Urban Village.

La Boite launches into 2005
|
 |
| |
La Boite Theatre Company is opening its second year at the Roundhouse Theatre at the Kelvin Grove Urban Village with the Queensland premiere of Amigos by David Williamson.
At the 1968 Mexico Olympics, an Australian rowing team wins bronze – it’s a moment of glory for four young idealists. Thirty-five years later, their mutual reverence is long lost and only three are still living: Jim, an investment banker with a shady past; Dick, a prominent heart surgeon; and Stephen, a penniless drop-out who is writing a book that will expose each of their pasts. Let the games begin!
Amigos runs from 18 February to 12 March 2005. For bookings contact QTIX on 136 246 or visit the La Boite website on www.laboite.com.au. |
