Development deal announced for University land |

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service has announced it is planning to move to a new state-of-the-art facility at the Kelvin Grove Urban Village.
The proposed $70 million facility, to be developed by Baulderstone Hornibrook on land owned by QUT, will house the Blood Service’s testing, processing, distribution, research and administration functions. It will also house a Centre for Physical Activity and Health with a gym, indoor sports courts and swimming pool that will be used for teaching and research and will also be accessible to the public.
The facility will be located between Musk Avenue and McCaskie Park, and between QUT’s Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, and its Creative Industries Precinct.
The Blood Service’s move to the Village will facilitate research and collaboration with the University’s academic partners, as well as external organisations who will also be attracted to the precinct. |

Queensland-based developer The Pask Group has been selected to build a $20 million residential development at the Kelvin Grove Urban Village, following the sale of Lot 8 by expression of interest. The corner site is located on Carraway and Ramsgate Streets, overlooking Kulgun Park.
Minister for Public Works, Housing and Racing, Robert Schwarten, announced that The Pask Group’s proposed development for the site is for 48 units over six storeys, incorporating some innovative sustainability initiatives.
“The Pask Group is one of Queensland ’s largest privately-owned development companies, and the Queensland Government is delighted to have them on board at the Kelvin Grove Urban Village,” Mr Schwarten said.

Sharing Stories captures Kelvin Grove history and growth
|
 |
| |
Sharing Stories is an innovative website which uses community stories and images to capture the rich social heritage of the Kelvin Grove Urban Village site.
As a collaborative project by the Department of Housing and the Queensland University of Technology, Sharing Stories aims to recognise the evolving ‘urbanscape’ of the Village, which has over the years encompassed schools, military barracks, private residences, and now university buildings.
Four different storytelling styles were used to capture and deliver the information: digital storytelling, visual arts, a photo gallery and non-fiction stories. The Sharing Stories website and an accompanying five-day exhibition at the Creative Industries Precinct was launched by the Member for Mt Coot-tha, Andrew Fraser MP, on 8 April 2005.
The next phase of Sharing Stories will include more digital storytelling and research for two commemorative books. If you are interested in sharing your stories about the Kelvin Grove Urban Village site, contact Helen Klaebe, History Project Manager on 2864 9664 or 0400 303 013, or send an email to enquiries@kgurbanvillage.com.au
