Chinese delegation impressed by Village |

 |
 |
| The Chinese visitors were briefed on the Village before touring the Creative Industries Precinct. |
|
A delegation of 15 people from the Jiangmen Municipal Construction
Bureau in Southern China visited
the Kelvin Grove Urban Village in 18 October as part of a two-week
learning tour of South-East Queensland. The group was comprised
of professionals in the building construction
and management, property development, landscaping and design
fields. They were particularly interested in the Village as a
unique master-planned community on an existing near-city site,
and its focus on sustainability, diversity, excellence in design
and the integration of the university with the community.
The Jiangmen group was briefed on the background of the project
by staff from the Department of Housing and Queensland University
of Technology, before touring the Creative Industries Precinct. |

What’s happening
at the Village |
 |
| |
Here is a brief update on recent developments at the Village:
- Indigo has begun construction of the basement work for
the Village Centre site on Lot 14.
- QUT has started construction on its $50 million Institute
of Health and Biomedical Innovation on Lot 25.
- The Department of Housing is negotiating with short-listed
developers for the sales of Lots 9 and 22/23, which are earmarked
for managed senior accommodation and managed student accommodation
respectively. An announcement regarding the successful developers
is likely in the next few weeks, and more details will appear
in future editions of this e-newsletter.
- The glass outdoor lift connecting the lower section of Musk
Avenue with Parer Place, four levels above, opened in early
October. The lift enhances the accessibility of the Village
and gives people heading to the Creative Industries Precinct
and La Boite an alternative to climbing the stairs.
-
Shade structures and innovative outdoor projection equipment
have been installed in Parer Place.
