Elevated residential sites available for sale

The Department of Housing is calling for expressions of interest to develop two prime residential sites in the Kelvin Grove Urban Village.

The sites, Lots 35 and 36, are in an elevated position on Victoria Park Road, with the potential for views towards the city from the upper levels of a development. Expressions of interest (EOI) for the development of multi-storey residential units on the site close on 15 December 2006. For more information, including the EOI documentation, visit the website.

The long-awaited retail centre at Kelvin Grove Urban Village opened its doors to customers in October. Most shops are in business already, with only a few waiting for final fit-outs before they open later this month.

The Village Centre shops are: Supa IGA, Station 8 Café, Kelvin Grove Pharmacy, Hair Colour Café, Nature’s Nails (nail bar), Kelvin Grove Village News, The Chop Shop butcher, Healthy Asian Foods (Asian produce), Il Villagio bakery, Inn Season juice bar and fresh produce, CP Fine Foods deli and fromagerie, Urban Village cellars (bottle shop), Flight Centre, Blue Lotus (dessert bar), Carraway Pier (fish and chips) and Noodles Inc (noodle bar). Westpac and ANZ automatic teller machines will be available, and undercover parking can be accessed via Ramsgate Street.

On Sunday 26 November, the Village Centre will come alive with activity. Join the Premier Peter Beattie from 11am as he officially opens the Village Centre. Share in the excitement as the Market Place opens its doors: you can meet your local organic grower, go on a Village Market tour, view the cooking demonstration or take advantage of the opening specials offered by all the retailers. Join in the fun from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 26 November.

The Kelvin Grove Urban Village has a comprehensive community development program in place for new and surrounding residents, as well as students, staff and others who work in or visit the Village.

The program includes a series of free low impact yoga classes on the Parer Place lawn, led by Yoga Chi Gung teacher Geraldine Carty. Classes are designed to respond to the needs of beginners through to intermediate participants, and are suitable for a broad range of age groups.

Classes are being held on Tuesdays from 7am to 8am until 28 November. Free entry, no booking necessary.
