Community: Community Development Programs

The Kelvin Grove Urban Village community development programs aim to foster a community spirit and interaction beyond individuals' front doors. The programs enable social connections to be made across the Village community.

There are five main components to the community development program:

  1. The Belong program is socially-driven and aims to encourage residents to interact with their community and feel part of the Village. A key element is the Village Handbook, which is given to all new residents and contains information about the Village facilities and community. Many activities in the Belong program are delivered through the Community Hub.
  2. The Well-being program encourages Village residents to use the facilities in the Village and nearby (including parks, QUT sports courts and pool) to lead a more healthy, active and interactive lifestyle.
  3. The Communiversity program aims to extend access to learning for people of all ages and abilities. It includes programs for senior citizens to learn new technologies, including digital photography and internet/emailing skills. It also encompasses the Schools program, which consists of a website with urban sustainability education materials and a computer-based simulation to demonstrate the concepts.
  4. The Virtual Communities program enables the Kelvin Grove Urban Village community to interact on line. It is driven by the Community Portal which links residents and gives up-to-date information about the mix of community activities, programs and events at the Village.
  5. The program feature a series of scheduled events at the Village catering to a wide range of tastes and interests. The events are scheduled during weekdays, evenings and on weekends to cater to the diverse mix of interests and lifestyles, and include everything from movie nights and wine tasting to a health expo and community music festival.
